The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy every machinery in its disposal to guarantee the success of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) across the country.
LEADERSHIP reports that INEC commenced online pre-registration for the CVR on August 18 while the in-person registration started on Monday, August 25, 2025.
Eligible Nigerians were encouraged to register as fresh voters, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Card (PVC) while those willing to transfer their voting power from one place to another within the country also have the opportunity during the exercise.
In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan, Publicity Secretary of the APC in the state, Olawale Sadare, expressed regret over the defeat of its candidate in the August 16 by-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency,.
Sadare said the circumstances surrounding the loss would help the Party to reposition itself and prepare fully for future elections.
“Now that the build-up to the next general election is unfolding with the commencement of the continuous voter registration exercise, we want all our party faithful to remain focused as we appealed for calm among those who have been agitated by the activities of some politicians and private individuals who have created unauthorised registration centres with a view to playing to the gallery and misleading the public on an exercise which could only be carried out by INEC as recognised by law.
“We are using this medium to direct all stakeholders within our Party to assist passionate and diligent party members who are saddled with task of mobilising prospective voters, from within their communities and Wards, to register with INEC and obtain their PVCs even as we assure that the state secretariat would be ready to listen to their complaints and take the necessary steps to address them urgently,” Sadare said.
More importantly, Oyo APC charged INEC to be above board in discharging its duties, particularly concerning the registration of fresh voters as well as production and distribution of PVCs.
“The Commission has to sanitise its register by removing names of all dead persons and also ensure that no underage or ineligible person is allowed register as a Voter.
“The issue of non-availability of registration officials and/or materials should not raise its ugly head this time while politicians and their agents should not be allowed to compromise the exercise,” the statement added.
