The Oyo State Government has intervened in a long-standing noise pollution complaint in Okeho, directing a hotel to relocate its power generating set after official evaluations confirmed excessive noise levels.

This was made known in a statement e-signed by the chairperson of the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), Hon. Justice Aderonke A. Aderemi (Rtd.) and posted on the Oyo State government’s verified Facebook page on Wednesday.

The enforcement action was carried out by OYRLEA in collaboration with the Pollution Monitoring and Quality Control Department of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

The case stemmed from a petition filed by a resident in the neighbourhood, Adelere Fatai Adebayo, who accused the hotel of subjecting him to prolonged noise and harmful emissions from its generator.

Responding to the complaint, OYRLEA officials conducted an on-site inspection on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, where scientific measurements were taken to assess the noise levels and the proximity of the generator to the complainant’s residence.

The Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), Arise Babatunde, confirmed that the readings exceeded permissible environmental limits, validating the petitioner’s claims.

Following the findings, the hotel manager, Peter Damilare, was immediately directed to relocate the generating set to a more suitable location away from residential buildings.

Authorities also warned that failure to comply with the directive could attract sanctions, including possible arrest.

Speaking after the enforcement exercise, the chairperson of OYRLEA, Aderemi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to environmental protection and public health.

“Environmental protection is not optional. OYRLEA will continue to enforce compliance to ensure that citizens live and work in a safe, peaceful and healthy environment,” she said.

The agency further advised the complainant to report any future violations, stressing its readiness to take further action if necessary.
