Oyo Govt Reaffirms Commitment To Wellbeing Of Children

Oyo State government has inaugurated a multi-sectoral planning committee for the 2025 Children’s Day celebration, re-affirming its commitment to the wellbeing of children

The committee, which comprises representatives from the Ministries of Health, Education, Justice, Information, Youth and Sports, Security Agencies, among others, was inaugurated at the board room of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Secretariat, Ibadan.

The commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, explained that the committee was set up to promote inclusiveness and ensure that this year’s celebration is impactful and memorable for the children.

She charged the committee members to work together to deliver a programme that empowers children to speak up, equip caregivers and educators with the tools to act and mobilise the community against all forms of bullying.

 

She stressed that this year’s theme, “Stand Up, Speak Up, Building a Bullying-Free Generation” reminds parents, guardians and stakeholder of their roles in the nurturing of children that are confident, respected and safe in all aspects of their lives, adding that bullying undermines their rights, dignity and mental health.

“Today, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that no child in the Oyo State suffers in silence.

 

“Permit me to appreciate the gracious approval and fatherly support of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, whose unwavering commitment to the development and well-being of children across the state continues to inspire our efforts.

 

“To our development partners and stakeholders, we appreciate your continued collaboration and look forward to your support as we plan towards a successful Children’s Day celebration that inspires positive change,” she said.

 

Earlier, the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr Mofoluwake Ibitoye, admonished members of the committee to actively engage in the planning of the event.

 

Ibitoye said, “As we begin the journey of planning for Children’s Day 2025, let us be guided by our collective responsibility to amplify the voices of Children and create spaces where they feel heard, safe and empowered.”
