Palmer, Foden, Maguire Out Of England World Cup Squad

Chelsea star Cole Palmer and Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden are set to miss out on England’s 2026 World Cup squad, sources confirmed to ESPN, with Harry Maguire also revealing he is not part of the 26-man party.

Thomas Tuchel will announce his England squad on Friday morning, but news broke on Thursday night of players who have missed out on selection.

Foden and Palmer are two notable names who’ll not be in the squad in North America. Palmer’s Chelsea teammate Levi Colwill has also been excluded, sources said, as has fellow defender Lewis Hall of Newcastle United.

Sources added that Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton have similarly been cut by Tuchel.

Among the surprise inclusions is Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney, according to sources, while Newcastle trio Tino Livramento, Dan Burn and Anthony Gordon are also set to be named.

Toney has made one late substitute appearance under Tuchel and not been selected since that camp last June. However, the 30-year-old has scored 32 goals in the Saudi Pro League this season.

Palmer’s had an injury-troubled season, and struggled for form, but has been a key figure for England, scoring in the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain. His omission is also a surprise.

Foden has been a part of England squads at the last three major tournaments and started in the Euro 2024 final. Like Palmer, though, he has endured an inconsistent season at club level.

Colwill made his comeback from an ACL injury in Chelsea’s defeat to Nottingham Forest earlier in May, and started in their FA Cup final loss to Manchester United.

Gibbs-White has also failed to make the cut, despite being the top-scoring English player in the Premier League this season with 14 goals.
