The chairman of Dei-Dei J5 Bus Drivers Union in the FCT, Mallam Umar Sarki Abubakar, has appealed to security agencies for assistance over the disappearance of a bus conductor, AbdulRasheed Nasiru, in Ilorin, Kwara State after allegedly being drugged by two passengers on the way.
According to Mallam Abubakar, the driver of the J5 bus, Sanusi Fada, was approached by two passengers who requested his help to get to Kano, saying they only had N6,000 with them.
But the driver told them that he was heading to Abuja, not Kano. The passengers then agreed to be dropped off at Dikko junction.
The journey commenced with the driver, his conductor, AbdulRasheed Nasiru, and the two passengers. Unfortunately, the bus broke down in Mokwa, Niger State.
The two passengers offered help to repair the vehicle, and while the repair was in progress, they purchased four bottles of Coca Cola, which they offered to the transporters. Unknown to the driver and conductor, the passengers had laced the drinks with drugs.
Soon after the conductor took his drink he immediately became drowsy. He informed the driver about his condition and was advised to rest. Eventually, the driver also drank from the bottle and lost consciousness.
Seizing the opportunity, the two passengers took off with some goods in the J5 bus as well as the occupants’ phones.
The police were notified, and the driver was taken to hospital for treatment. The remaining goods were successfully delivered after the bus was taken to the airport.
Thereafter, vehicle itself was taken to the police station at the airport.
The chairman of Dei Dei J5 park, Mallam Umar Sarki Abubakar, is urging the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of DSS and the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to assist in apprehending the fleeing two passengers.
He said the J5 union has a long-standing reputation for responsibly conveying customers’ goods and that such an event had never occurred before. He said the union plans to conduct security sensitisation programs to educate drivers.
