The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has suspended the Action Democratic Party (ADP) from all its activities following the party’s refusal to sign the IPAC Constitution.

In a letter dated September 26, 2025, and addressed to the national chairman of ADP, IPAC’s national secretary, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, conveyed the resolution of the IPAC General Assembly after an emergency meeting held on August 1, 2025, at the Council’s national secretariat in Abuja.

According to the letter, the General Assembly’s decision was prompted by ADP’s “deliberate refusal to be a signatory to the IPAC Constitution,” which governs the operations of the Council.

The resolution emphasised that a party cannot continue to participate in IPAC activities while disregarding its foundational rules.

“As a result,” the letter reads, “ADP State Chairmen currently occupying leadership positions in IPAC at the state level are hereby deemed to have automatically forfeited such positions with immediate effect.”
IPAC reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional order, discipline, and unity within Nigeria’s political landscape, stating that adherence to its constitution remains a core requirement for participation in the Council.

The suspension raises questions about ADP’s future role in collaborative inter-party dialogue and governance, with observers noting the potential impact on the party’s influence at both national and state levels.
