There is a brewing controversy over the PDP congress in Delta State. In Warri South local government area, the Urhobo PDP members have distanced themselves from the congress conducted last Saturday. They urged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene in the interest of justice and equity.

The leader of Warri Urhobo PDP, Prof Israel Abido and leader of Warri Urhobo Political Class, Rev Canon David Otofia, confirmed the disagreement.

Abido stated that PDP Warri Urhobos were put in the dark on the congress and were annoyed about it.

He recalled that it took him time to persuade PDP Warri Urhobos to accept the emergence of an Itsekiri as the party’s chairmanship candidate in the just concluded local government council elections.

Rev. Canon David Otofia also said the leadership of PDP Warri Urhobos was not consulted on the congress.

He further asked on what premise the party’ s congress was conducted when there was ward delineation in the Warri federal constituency by INEC based on the Supreme Court judgement of December 2, 2022.
