PDP Congresses In 26 States Validly Conducted, Says Bauchi Chairman

The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Bauchi State, Sama’ila Adamu Burga, has stated that the timing of activities of a political party remains strictly an internal affair, citing the Supreme Court judgment in the Sule Lamido case.

Burga at a press conference yesterday in Bauchi, explained that the apex court judgment declared the convention held in Ibadan null and void, while the tenure of the then National Working Committee expired in December 2025.

According to him, the development created a vacuum at the national level of the party, but the PDP had concluded congresses from the ward level to the National Executive Committee.

He said the congresses conducted in 26 states were monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and subsequently ratified by the party’s Board of Trustees and other relevant organs.

The state chairman ruled out the existence of any faction within the party at any level, insisting that recognised party members conducted congresses for state and National Assembly positions under the supervision of INEC.

“We have in Bauchi State screened three aspirants for the Senate, 12 for the House of Representatives, 31 for the State House of Assembly, and one aspirant for the governorship seat ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he stated.

Burga described the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP as the authentic leadership, stressing that anyone who purchased nomination forms from any other faction had only wasted his or her money because such forms would not be recognised.

He, however, assured party members that the PDP would soon conduct its primaries to produce candidates for the 2027 general elections in the state.

According to him, developments at the national level would not significantly affect the 26 states and zones where congresses were duly conducted, monitored, and supervised by relevant authorities.

The development comes after a Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party affirmed Hon. Usman Adamu Sufi as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Bauchi State.

The faction also produced Dabo Danjuma Adamu as its candidate for Bauchi South Senatorial District, Hon. Abdulkadir Adamu for Bauchi North Senatorial District, while Bello Ibrahim emerged as the candidate for Bauchi Central Senatorial District.
