There is growing concern over the fate of the proposed national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja fixed October 31 for judgement in a suit seeking to stop the convention on grounds of violations of the party’s rules.

The court fixed the date on Tuesday after hearing arguments for and against the suit filed by three aggrieved party members.

The case was instituted by Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP chairman), Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia PDP chairman), and Turnah Alabh George (PDP secretary, South-South).

They instituted the suit to stop the November 15 and 16, 2025 national convention of PDP scheduled for Ibadan, Oyo State, where new national officers are expected to be elected, claiming that it was in breach of the party’s constitution.

The nine defendants are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); PDP; national secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu; national organising secretary, Umar Baturrle; National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party; national chairman Umar Iliya Damagum; Ali Odefa and Emmanuel Ogidi.
