The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has assured the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara of its support over the control of the party’s structure in the state.

Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum who is also governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, gave the assurance at the weekend when he received Fubara who visited the state to sympathise with Mohammed over the demise of his stepmother.

Fubara has been locked in a battle for control of PDP in Rivers State with his predecessor who is the incumbent minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The tussle came to a head last week when the National Working Committee of PDP, in a statement by the national publicity secretary, Hon Debo Ologunagba, reaffirmed its recognition of the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive which is loyal to Fubara.

Ologunagba had said NWC took the decision in cognisance with a Rivers State High Court judgement which nullified the party’s Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, respectively which was loyal to Wike.

Recall that the PDP deputy national publicity secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, had dismissed Ologunagba’s earlier statement recognising the Ewor-led executive, noting that the NWC had not deliberated on the matter.

But speaking at his meeting with Fubara, Mohammed commended his colleague for regaining control of PDP in Rivers, adding that the National Working Committee of the PDP are solidly behind him.
He said that what Fubara delivered to the people of Rivers State revealed him as a strategic and efficient leader.

“We have no qualms against anybody,” Governor Mohammed declared. He added all loyal members of the PDP must respect the dictates of time in their respective domains to remain united as a strong opposition platform.

He said Fubara’s control of the PDP structure in Rivers is important to the balance of power and a reflection of the ideals of democracy. “All the governors are with you,” he emphasised.

On his part, Fubara, who is the vice-chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, thanked Mohammed and all PDP governors for their solidarity and support.

He commended the synergy among PDP governors saying it has helped to ensure the achievement of good things to right the many wrongs.

“It is not easy. We have come out strongly and taken positions,” Fubara added.
