INEC, in a letter dated June 13, 2025, addressed to the PDP National Chairman and signed by its acting secretary, Haliru Aminu, said both the national chairman and national secretary of the party are required to jointly sign the notice for NEC.

The letter, a copy of which was sighted by LEADERSHIP reads; “The commission draws your attention that the notice is not in compliance with the requirement of part 2(12)3 of the Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, 2022 that provides ‘the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party shall jointly sign the notice of convention, congress, conference or meeting end submit same to the Commission.’ be guided.”

LEADERSHIP reports that Nigeria’s main opposition party has not responded to the correspondence from the nation’s electoral body regarding the meeting as at the time of filing this report.

The position of the national secretary of the PDP has been in contention over the legal implications of a Supreme Court ruling on Senator Sam Anyawu and Ude Okoye.
