The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) have stopped campaigns ahead of Saturday’s federal elections, urging Nigerians to remain alert and resist any attempt by anybody to subvert their Will at the polls.
National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, in a statement, said in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, all campaign activities and materials related to “our Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and our National Assembly Candidates for the Saturday, February 25, 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections close at midnight today, Thursday, February 23, 2023.
“Consequently, the PDP directs all our campaign units, support groups and supporters of our candidates to end all forms of campaign activities accordingly.
“The public, particularly the media should take note that our Party and candidates will not be liable for any campaign activity and/or material that appears on any platform after the stipulated time.
“The PDP sincerely appreciates Nigerians for the unprecedented outpouring of love, solidarity and support for our Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, his running mate, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and the National Assembly candidates of our Party throughout the campaign period.
“We urge Nigerians to remain at alert and resist any attempt by anybody to subvert their Will at the polls.”
On its part, the Director General of the LP National Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun, in a statement said,
“The Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, wishes to announce the end of the Presidential campaigns by midnight of Thursday 23, February 2023 in line with the Electoral Act.
“We, therefore wish to advise all obidient supporters, particularly those wishing to place advertorials of any kind in any media outlets (Electronic, Print, social media) to note this legal inhibition and be compliant. Labour Party or the Campaign Council will not be responsible for any such placement as media houses are advised to note this directive.
“We wish to also use this opportunity to appreciate and thank all our numerous supporters who contributed immensely in one way or the other to the success of the campaigns to take back Nigeria,” he said.
