‘PDP Members Leaving Party Carcass For Wike, Cronies’, Says Dele Momodu

Veteran journalist and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Bashorun Dele Momodu, has declared that many loyalists of Nigeria’s main opposition party were abandoning the party structure, leaving it to the control of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and his associates.

Momodu made the statement on Thursday during an appearance on Channels TV’s breakfast show ‘Sunrise Daily’, where he reaffirmed his commitment to a newly-formed coalition of opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Without any doubt, people are leaving the carcass of PDP to Wike and his cronies, that’s all. It was a prophecy foretold,” Momodu said when asked whether he intended to quit the party.

Although Wike remains a PDP member, he currently serves as a minister in President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government, a position that has deepened the internal crisis within the PDP and drawn accusations of dual loyalty.

Momodu further accused the APC of strategic sabotage, claiming the ruling party was planting moles in opposition strongholds to weaken their chances in the next presidential election.

“The ruling party does not want competition in 2027, so what they are doing now is to send their moles into any major formidable party,” he stated.

Despite the challenges, Momodu expressed renewed optimism following the emergence of a new coalition of opposition figures, which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 elections.

“I have never seen that kind of coalition, even when we were doing coalition for Buhari in 2014 and 2015, it was not this powerful and impactful,” he said.

“What I saw yesterday (Wednesday) rekindled my hope in Nigeria—that Nigerians will not sit down and allow one man to hijack the country.”

Momodu didn’t spare the current administration either, sharply criticising the state of the nation under President Tinubu. Comparing it to the controversial tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, he argued that conditions have worsened significantly.

“I know you might not be able to answer, but is this the Nigeria of your dreams? Are you better today than you were two years ago? At least when Buhari left, we saw what he left, no matter how bad it was. But it is much worse today,” he said pointedly.

LEADERSHIP reports that Momodu’s comments came just a day after top opposition leaders gathered in Abuja to announce a unified front under the ADC, aiming to challenge the dominance of the APC and rescue what they described as Nigeria’s declining democracy.
