A former House of Representatives member, Hon. Shina Peller, has declared that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been positioned to usher in a leadership being yearned for by Nigerians.
Hon. Peller stated this on Tuesday while reacting to the victory of the PDP candidate in the last Saturday, August 16, 2025 Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election, Folajimi Oyekunle.
He described Oyekunle’s victory as a significant milestone for the ruling party in Oyo State and a testament to the trust reposed in the Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration in the State.
The former federal lawmaker added that the Governor Makinde’s leadership has inspired confidence among the electorate in Oyo State.
“Indeed, the outcome of the Ibadan North by-election sends a clear message that PDP remains a formidable force in Oyo State, and will be the source of the new system Nigerians have been yearning for by November 2025 when we hold our national convention in Ibadan,” he said.
He further commended Makinde’s Omituntun Agenda for creating more opportunities for young people, noting that the 42-year-old Oyekunle represents the younger generation of leaders being groomed in the state.
He noted that about 70 per cent of those serving in Makinde’s government were youths.
Peller maintained that the governor was setting a precedent for a new wave of leadership that aligns with the aspirations of the younger generation.
“You can’t create change by fighting the present system; you create change by establishing a new functional system that will make the present one obsolete,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to look forward to the PDP’s national convention in November, assuring that it will produce a leadership that resonates with the people’s expectations.
