Pen Resource Varsity Raises Staff Salary By 35%

A Gombe State-based private tertiary school, Pen Resource University has increased the academic staff salary by 35 percent and 25 percent for non-academic staff respectively.

The pro-chancellor and founder of the university, Dr Sani Jauro, disclosed the salary increment over the weekend during the matriculation of the new students for the 2023/2024 session.

He said the salary increment was a permanent increase, adding that the gesture was meant to motivate the staff members and enhance service delivery.

Jauro also unveiled plans to establish a research centre on traditional medicine and herbs in the university where the substances will be examined to ascertain their usefulness and effects.

Earlier, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Yusuph Amuda Yahaya, said they were matriculating a total of 334 students into the university for the 2023/2024 academic session.

He said from the matriculation of Stream I students in December, 2022, the university has added the following programmess: Political Science and Administration, Data Science, Petroleum Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, all in the Faculty of Science and Computing.

The VC said that a new faculty of Allied Health Sciences with the following programmes, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Science and Public Health was created.

According to him, the new courses were in addition to the existing 27 programmes and said the university now has a total population of 696 students.
