The national president, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, (PENGASSAN) Comrade Festus Osifo has been re-elected at the Association’s 7th Triennial National Delegate Conference in Abuja.
Osifo who is also the president, Trade Union Congress (TUC), was retained unopposed alongside seven other national officers. Two new members were however elected into PENGASSAN national executive.
Speaking to journalists shortly after his election, Comrade Osifo expressed gratitude to all PENGASSAN members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to not disappoint to build on the foundation laid in the last years.
He said, “In the current National Working Committee NWC, we are people of integrity and sound intellects, who have been working hard. Of course, the work we have put together in the past three years are today noticeable everywhere by all union members. So I can say I am overwhelmed with joy, and I salute union members for their show of love and courage”.
Osifo said the union under him in the past three years has been able to recover billions of naira owed workers, explaining that “we started advocacy when just about 700 barrels of oil was produced per day. But after our advocacy and consistent push there is a significant progress and we are now producing about 105 million barrels and above. So these are the giant strides we have made and we know that there is still room for improvement”.
He also pledged to continue to push for a better living condition for PENGASSAN members as well as the generality of Nigerians.
