Chairman of the Enugu Joint National Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, Comrade Onyebuchi Mbah, has cslled for  an end to begging in all parts of Enugu State.

He made the call in an exclusive interview with LEADERSHIP Friday  in Enugu.

Onyebuchi acknowledged the Ministry of Agenda Affairs’ efforts to keep beggars off the streets of Enugu.

However, he expressed dismay that despite the efforts, beggars have continued to rear their ugly heads in different parts of the state.

He used the opportunity to advise members of the association not to embrace begging, stating that it is against human dignity.

He asked Governor Mbah, to help them establish the Enugu State Disability Commission.

Onyebuchi pointed out that the absence of the commission remains a serious challenge facing people with disabilities in the state.

He said the commission, when established, will help fight against begging in the state.

He added that the commission will help in the fight against begging by setting up a task force to monitor its members’ activities and assist in the fight against begging.

Onyebuchi further disclosed that it is an offence to use people with disabilities to beg, but said the establishment of the commission will help in the implementation of the sections of the law against begging.
