Peter Obi Factor Will Deliver South-East To ADC — Scribe

The national organising secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Prince Chinedu Idigo, has expressed confidence that the party will secure victory in the South-East in the 2027 general elections, attributing the optimism to the influence of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Idigo, who spoke in Abuja yesterday while reacting to the recent Supreme Court judgment that restored the Senator David Mark-led National Working Committee, said the people of the South-East have embraced Obi as their political leader, regardless of party affiliations.

According to him, Obi’s performance in the 2023 presidential election underscored his widespread acceptance and political strength across the region.

He noted that the former Anambra State governor won convincingly in the South-East despite his party not controlling any state government in the zone.

“Peter Obi won in the South-East in 2023 without his party holding a single governorship position in the region. That clearly shows the level of support he enjoys among the people,” Idigo said.

He dismissed claims that the ADC lacks the structure to win in the region, describing such arguments as a misunderstanding of national politics.

“People misconstrue the situation by claiming that because ADC does not control any state in the South-East, it cannot secure votes there. That is not correct.

We understand national politics, and Peter Obi has become a rallying point for the people,” he stated.

Idigo maintained that with Obi’s influence and the stability restored by the Supreme Court judgment, the ADC is well-positioned to make significant electoral gains in the South-East in 2027.

He also called on INEC to grant the party additional time to conduct its primary elections, even as it disclosed plans to release its primaries timetable within the week.

“The prolonged legal tussle cost us valuable time. It is only fair that INEC provides a window for the ADC to conduct credible primaries for all aspirants,” he said.

Despite the setbacks, he assured that the party is making rapid progress and will unveil its timetable soon.

The ADC scribe also revealed that the party has recorded over four million registrations through its online membership platform, describing it as evidence of growing national acceptance.

“As it stands today, the ADC is fast becoming one of the largest political platforms in Nigeria, given the massive influx of new members.

The judgment was a relief. However, we will not rest on our oars. We will continue to pursue policies that serve the best interests of Nigerians and work towards building a just and egalitarian society,” Idigo added.
