PHC Services: Yobe Wins $500,000 National Primary Health Leadership Challenge Award

The Yobe State government has clinched the award of Primary Healthcare (PHC) Leadership Challenge for states in the North-East amounting to $500, 000 in prize money over best performance.

The Federal Government in collaboration with the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, UNICEF and Aliko Dangote Foundation has in 2022 launched the award with a view to strengthened the country’s primary healthcare in addition to evaluating states’ performance in six key areas of governance, financing, service delivery, sustainability and outcomes.

The $500,000 cheque presented to the Yobe State government during an event at the presidential villa Abuja, was received by the deputy governor Hon Id Barde Gubana (Wazirin Fune) on behalf of governor Mai Mala Buni.

The deputy governor accompanied by the commissioner of Health, Dr Mohammed Lawan Gana, executive secretary Yobe State PHCB, Dr Kundi Machina among other health officials, has while receiving the prize, commended the organisers for appreciating the efforts of the state government towards improving the healthcare sector and service delivery.

Gubana who is also the state chairman on immunization and Primary Health Care attributed the success of the Yobe at the award ceremony to the personal commitments of the governor in ensuring that people were given the best services for a healthy society.

Yobe was awarded $500,000 for being the best performing state in the North-East zone while Anambra emerged winner in the South-East zone of the country.

Other zonal winners who each received $500,000 include Kwara (North-Central), Kaduna (North-West), Rivers South-South) and Osun (South-West).
