The Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria has lauded the efforts of the federal government in transitioning to non-combustive vehicles.
The chairman, Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria, Ekiti State chapter, Dr Ibrahim Azeez gave the commendation during a visit of the association to the office of the Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Dr (Mrs) Abibat Adubiaro.
Azeez said the move was in line with the chapter’s objectives of improving environmental health and reducing the prevalence of infectious and communicable diseases.
In her remarks. Dr Adubiaro lauded the indispensable roles being played by family Physicians in the nation’s healthcare delivery system.
She emphasized the unique roles of the association in promoting public health stating that, “the work of the association cannot be neglected or sidelined in our society, as health is indeed wealth.”
The SSG reassured the team that the governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, remains committed to the welfare of its citizens, including healthcare workers.
Harping on the purpose of the visit, Azeez said it includes enhancing advocacy and awareness on the theme of this year’s Family Doctor’s Day, globally celebrated annually on May 19.
He noted that the theme for this year’s celebration of Family Doctor’s Day which is “Healthy Planet, Healthy People’’ is apt as the entire globe is assiduously working towards moving away from hydrocarbons and other fossil fuel that generate greenhouse gases to cleaner sources of energy such as air, wind and hydro.
Azeez emphasized the role of stakeholders in supporting government policies, expressing confidence in the collaboration with the government to achieve shared objectives.
