The burial rites for the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan Land, His Imperial Majesty Oba Mashood Olalekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, has begun on Friday afternoon with the remains of the monarch moved from the Palace to the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan for lying-in-state.

The lying-in-state, which is taking place about now, will afford Ibadan indigenes and residents the last opportunity to bid their monarch farewell ahead of his burial slated for 4pm this Friday according to Islamic rites.

LEADERSHIP reports that Oba Balogun died after two years on the throne on Thursday night shortly after his admission at the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan for an unknown ailment.

Born in 1942, Oba Balogun, who was a Fourth Republic Senator, represented Oyo Central senatorial district between 1999 and 2003.

He ascended the throne on March 11, 2022, after the demise of Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Oguguniso III. Adetunji, 93, had died on January 2, 2022, after reigning from March 4, 2016.
