Despite ongoing school renovation efforts across Bauchi State, pupils of Unguwar Hardo Primary School in Miri district, Bauchi local government area of the State were still being forced to attend lessons under the scorching sun and the shade of trees.
Our correspondent learned that the pupils continued to face challenges due to inadequate learning environments, even as teachers strived to maintain classroom instruction.
Journalists observed this serious situation on Thursday during monitoring exercise by the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to various schools on the 2026/2027 school resumption in the Bauchi South Senatorial District.
The team, led by Mallam Abbas Abdulmumini, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at SUBEB, expressed disappointment over the head teacher’s absence from duty at the Unguwar Hardo Primary School in Miri district.
Mallam Abdulmumini emphasised that the Bauchi State government, through the leadership of SUBEB Executive Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad Duguri, would not tolerate neglect of official responsibilities.
He added that the exercise was a routine inspection aimed at ensuring effective teaching, improving student retention, and boosting enrollment in public schools.
While expressing concerns about the learning conditions at the school, Mallam Abdulmumini commended the community’s effort in constructing a new block of classrooms and noted satisfaction with student enrollment levels.
He directed Mrs. Talatu Yakubu, Education Secretary of the Bauchi Local Education Authority, to take necessary action regarding the head teacher’s absenteeism.
