Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, exercised their civic rights on Saturday during the contentious local government area elections in the State, emphasising the importance of a transparent and peaceful process.
Governor Yusuf, who voted in Gwale local government area of the State, vowed to ensure that the newly elected local government council chairmen and councillors are insulated from misappropriation of public funds. “We will not tolerate embezzlement of public funds from the soon-to-be-appointed chairmen,” he said, expressing confidence that his administration would work closely with grassroot leaders regardless of party affiliations to drive the state forward.
He also commended the peaceful conduct of the elections and encouraged residents to exercise their franchise.
Also, Kwankwaso, a former two-term governor of Kano State and NNPP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, voted at his polling unit in Kwankwaso town of Madobi LGA of the State.
He urged voters to participate without fear or intimidation, stating, “I have cast my vote at my polling unit in Kwankwaso as part of the ongoing local government elections in Kano. I encourage everyone to exercise their franchise without fear.”
LEADERSHIP reports that despite the absence of police personnel during the exercise, the elections were peaceful across the State. Security at polling units was handled by officials from KAROTA, HISBAH, and Vigilante groups, with no report of violence across the state.
