Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, on Tuesday, joined other mourners at the funeral of two young men of Kano State origin, who were recently killed in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The funeral prayer was held at the National Mosque in Abuja, drawing the presence of bereaved family members, religious leaders, and sympathisers.
LEADERSHIP reports that the deceased, Jamilu Ahmad and Barhama Suleiman, both residents of Unguwa Uka in Kano, were laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery, with Governor Yusuf and NSA Ribadu accompanying the corpses to their final resting place.
In a statement issued by Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor condemned the killings and called on the Benue State Government to act swiftly to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
“This is a tragic loss for us in Kano and for the country. The Benue State Government must act quickly to arrest and punish those behind this cruel act,” the governor was quoted as saying.
He further emphasised the need for justice and accountability, warning that failure to act would undermine national peace and unity.
Governor Yusuf also seized the moment to remind the Edo State Government to expedite the payment of compensation for the families of 16 hunters killed by a mob in Uromi.
