The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday sealed off several packaged water factories in Alimosho area of Lagos State.
The closure followed the outcome of investigative inspections by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate.
NAFDAC revealed in a post on its official X handle (formerly Twitter) Wednesday evening.
According to the NAFDAC, “The factories were operating in untidy and unsafe environments, violating Good Manufacturing Practice regulations.
“The inspections revealed that the unhygienic conditions of these factories posed serious health risks due to potential contamination by pathogenic microorganisms.”
As a result, the agency said several factories were sealed for non-compliance with its regulations.
Similarly, NAFDAC urged the public to remain vigilant when purchasing sachet and bottled water by verifying supply sources and reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office or call 09097630506 or 09097630507
In another development, the agency is notifying the public of the recall of Caro White Skin Lightening Beauty Lotion by the European Union’s (EU) Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX).
The agency stated, “The product does not comply with the Cosmetic Products Regulation as it is said to contain high concentration of Kojic Acid above allowable maximum concentration of 1% as concluded by the EU Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS).
“Although the product is not in NAFDAC database, importers, distributors, retailers and consumers are advised to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid the importation, distribution, sale and use of the above mentioned product.”
Meanwhile, NAFDAC added that the product authenticity and physical condition should be carefully checked.
Hence, members of the public in possession of the product should discontinue sale or use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
