The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, on Tuesday, led a rescue team to the site of a train derailment along the Abuja–Kaduna rail line, near the Idda sub-station in Kaduna State.
The incident, which occurred around 11am local time, left seven passengers injured. Officials, however, said no lives were lost. The victims were given first aid treatment at the scene before being transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
The rescue mission involved officers of the Nigerian military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, who worked alongside NEMA to secure the scene and provide immediate support to passengers.
Authorities assured that investigations were underway to ascertain the cause of the derailment and that safety on the critical Abuja–Kaduna corridor remains a priority.
