In a significant stride against terrorism, troops of Operation Lake Sanity III, a segment of Operation Hadin Kai, have dismantled a hidden bread production facility operated by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the Maisani area of the Timbuktu Triangle, within the Damboa local government area of Borno State.

The discovery was made by the combined forces of the 199 Special Forces Battalion, Hybrid Forces, and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) during a meticulous exploitation mission into the notorious terrorists’ enclave on Sunday, as confirmed by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama.

According to Makama, “The sources revealed that the factory was obliterated, and the items recovered during the raid included two Lister generating plants, one baking machine, and an array of baking materials.”

This breakthrough occurred amid a week-long clearance operation aimed at eliminating terrorist strongholds in the Timbuktu Triangle—a region infamous for housing extremist groups and comprising areas like Buk 1, 2, and 3, Talala, Ajigin, Dusula, Abulam, and Gorgi.

Makama highlighted the strategic challenges faced by the troops due to the complex terrain, which include heavily fortified camps hidden under dense foliage and numerous IEDs.

He stated, “Despite the complexity of the terrain characterized by highly fortified camps mostly located under thick foliage and IEDs planted in several locations within the Timbuktu Triangle, the troops continued to maintain high fighting efficiency.”

“These terrorist cells have been largely responsible for various disruptive activities such as ambushes, attacks, and the laying of IEDs/mine incidents, predominantly targeting the Damboa roads, Damaturu-Maiduguri Main Supply Route, and other key locations including Askira, Buratai, Buni Yadi, along with the destruction of the high-tension transmission line connecting Borno and Yobe State.”
