A solemn atmosphere enveloped the residence of late former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, on Tuesday morning, as a group of women gathered to offer prayers and recite the Qur’an in his honour.
The women, believed to be close family members and long-time associates of the former President, assembled in an inner section of the Daura home where they held a special prayer session for the repose of Buhari’s soul.
The prayer gathering came as preparations intensified for the burial of the former Nigerian leader, who died on Sunday in a hospital in London.
According to sources present at the scene, the women recited selected verses from the Holy Qur’an and offered du’as (supplications) for divine mercy and eternal rest for the late President.
Meanwhile, local authorities and community members have begun digging the grave where Buhari will be laid to rest in his residence. The final burial rites were scheduled to take place in accordance with Islamic tradition upon the arrival of his remains from the United Kingdom.
Buhari’s body is expected to arrive at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina before being transported to his hometown in Daura.
Security has been tightened around the area, with dignitaries and mourners continuing to arrive to pay their final respects.
