A former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep (Rtd) has claimed that the continuous attacks on communities in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas of Plateau State were coordinated, systematic and deliberate to wipe out the people from their lands.

Wuyep made the claim while speaking with newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

He described as deeply painful the recent wave of deadly attacks in the state which he described as ethnic cleansing that should not be tolerated in a civilised society.

“I want the world to know that the attacks on innocent persons in the state is not herders-farmers clash. Was it in the farm that people were been killed in Bokkos and Bassa; was there a clash? If so, between who and who? We know that the locals were attacked and killed, so if it is a clash, with which group of people?, he asked.

Wuyep further stressed, “What is the identity of this people? This is a terrorist attack and the security must fish out the preparators.

“These killings have been going on for long and I think the time to stop this senseless attacks on rural communities is now. This issue has to be addressed as quickly as possible.”

He acknowledged the concern of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang for directing the security agencies and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to respond with relief materials for the victims.

“Government should not allow our communities to turn into killings fields. For me, these incidents are not isolated, they are coordinated acts of terror, aimed at instilling fear, displacing our people, and ultimately undermining the right of the people to coexist peacefully in their ancestral lands,” he maintained.

Wuyep urged the people to rally round Governor Mutfwang, adding that the issue is not a political. “Today, it is Governor Caleb Mutfwang and tomorrow it may be a different person. Let us come together and fight this menace, let’s speak out to the concern authorities to take urgent steps to end the killings”.
