Plateau State Head of Civil Service (HoS) Mrs Rauta Dakok has decried the attitude of some civil servants who are still occupying government quarters even after retirement.

Dakota stated this during the monthly press briefing organised by the Ministry of Information and Communication at the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat Jos and argued that their refusal to quit is preventing serving civil servants from enjoying the same accommodation in the state.

She also lamented the shortage of manpower as a result of batched retirement of civil servants and non-availability of copies of current public service rules and other relevant government publications adding that the development is a cog in the wheel of progress.

According to her, the office of the Head of Civil Service is responsible for the leadership, management, and capacity development of the state civil service, which is the engine room of governance and the administrative machinery for implementing the state government’s policies and programmes.

Mrs Dakot further hinted that indiscriminate encroachment on lands adjoining to government quarters by unscrupulous persons and lack of adherence to due process for training by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and many others are some of the challenges being faced by the service in the state.

Speaking on staff/pension welfare, the Head of Service further disclosed that her office has conducted physical verification of staff and pensioners with the view to offset salary/pension arrears inherited from immediate past administration.
