Plateau State governor Caleb Mutfwang has commended the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for implementing effective frameworks to monitor and control the influx of people who pose security threats to the state and the country.

Governor Mutfwang stated this when he hosted the state commandant of the NIS, Grace Nkangwung, at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

A statement issued by the director of press and public affairs, Mr Gyang Bere, praised the valuable contributions of the Service during State Security Council Meetings and expressed confidence in Nkangwung’s ability to surpass her predecessor in enhancing the security of Plateau State.

Mutfwang emphasised the critical role of the Immigration Service in regulating the migration of people in and out of the country. He stressed the need for collaboration to eliminate criminal elements within the state.

He said while the state is open to visitors, they must adhere to the laws to maintain order. He urged the Immigration Service to work closely with the government to minimise criminality in the state.

Nkangwung, in her remarks, highlighted her extensive experience in various northern commands, including land and air border patrol and migration management.

She promised to leverage her expertise to provide quality service in Plateau State.

In a related development, Mutfwang has shown a keen interest in partnering with the private sector to develop the value chain in the mining industry for revenue generation.

The governor made this known during a meeting with an international conglomerate, Bisy Group from Australia, at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos.

Welcoming the chief executive officer of Bisy Group, Raven Bi, and the management of Plateau Minerals Development Company, Governor Mutfwang acknowledged the vast potential of mineral deposits in the state.

He recalled the significant contribution of the state’s extractive industry to Nigeria’s GDP in the 1960s.

Governor Mutfwang criticised the rampant surface mining activities in the state, which generate minimal revenue, and called for the adoption of technology in mineral exploration.

Earlier, Bi told the governor that his company, a world-class partner in strategic mining consultancy, is in the state to explore the possibility of mining lithium using technology.
