A former Plateau State governor, Senator Jonah Jang, has advised President Bola Tinubu to convene an expanded meeting with community leaders to gain comprehensive understanding on the situation in the state.

Jang, in a statement in reaction to the killings in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas of the state said such meeting will provide a platform for stakeholders to share their insights and experiences to enable the President to develop more informed measure to tackling the problem.

The former governor believed such meeting will address what he termed the misconception in the President’s recent statement directing Governor (Caleb) Mutfwang to resolve the communal issue.

Jang argued that the presidential suggestion appeared to arise from inaccurate briefings by Tinubu’s advisers.

He stressed that the attacks in Plateau State were not merely communal disputes but those perpetrated by a known group with a specific agenda.

Jang further stressed, “It is crucial for the President to understand the true nature of these attacks in order to address them effectively while urging the people of the State to remain strong and resist any attempts to undermine their existence.”

Senator Jang added that that as peace-loving and welcoming citizens, the people have endured enough, maintaining that it is time to defend themselves against these aggressors and demand justice while calling on the people to stay united, vigilant and proactive in the face of the attacks.

Jang also commended Governor Mutfwang for his tireless efforts to find a lasting solution to the crisis, noting that his dedication to the safety and well-being of Plateau citizens was truly commendable.
