The federal government’s approval of the dualisation of the Mararaban Jama’a–Pankshin–Langtang–Shendam–River Ibi Road is expected to boost trade, attract investments and deepen regional integration between Plateau and Taraba states, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has said.

The governor described the project as a strategic economic corridor that will unlock Plateau State’s vast agricultural, commercial and tourism potential while strengthening links between the North-Central and North-East regions.

In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere, Mutfwang said the approval demonstrates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to bridging Nigeria’s infrastructure gap and promoting inclusive national development.

According to the governor, the highway will ease the movement of people and goods, reduce transportation costs, stimulate agricultural production, expand commerce, attract private investment and create jobs by opening up rural communities.

“This approval is not just about the construction of a road; it is about restoring hope, expanding economic opportunities, creating jobs, opening up rural communities and accelerating the development of the North-Central and North-East corridors. It is a project that will positively impact generations to come,” he said.

Mutfwang thanked President Tinubu for approving the project, describing him as a dependable partner committed to the peace, development and economic advancement of Plateau State.

He also commended the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for facilitating engagement with the federal government and championing the state’s development priorities.

The governor equally praised the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for his commitment to delivering the federal government’s infrastructure agenda.

He urged Plateau residents, irrespective of political, ethnic or religious affiliations, to continue supporting efforts to attract more federal projects and investments to the state.

Mutfwang expressed confidence that the completed highway would stand as one of the most significant infrastructure projects in the history of Plateau and Taraba states, leaving a lasting legacy of economic transformation and regional prosperity.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the Federal Government to deliver projects that improve livelihoods, stimulate economic growth and position Plateau State as a preferred destination for investment, tourism and enterprise.
