Police Arraign 29 ‘Yoruba Nation’ Agitators Over Treasonable Felony, Others

The Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday arraigned 29 suspected members of the Yoruba Nation agitators for invading the state government secretariat last Saturday in Ibadan, the state capital.

The suspects, in the case file charged number Mi/520c/2024 between the Commissioner of Police vs the 29 suspects, were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court for their involvement, and roles in the aborted invasion.

Seven-count charge bothering on treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearm, going armed and conduct likely to cause breach of peace were slammed on the suspects.

According to the Investigative Police Officer, Bakare Rasaq, an Inspector with the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku in Ibadan, the offences are contrary to, and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol.II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The number of suspects arraigned was an increase of nine more from the 20 suspects earlier paraded by the Oyo State Police Command on Monday, April 15th.
