Police Arraign Lagos Teacher Over Alleged Assault Of 3-yr-old Pupil

The Nigerian Police on Thursday arraigned a female teacher of Christ Mitot School, Ikorodu, Stella Nwadigbo before a Lagos State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba for alleged of a toddler resulting in grievous bodily harm.

Nwadigbo was caught in a viral video where she was alleged to be assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The defendant who resides at Isawo in the Ikorodu area of Lagos, was accused by the police of committing the offence on January 7 within the school premises.

Police prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, had informed Chief Magistrate O. Kushanu that the defendant was allegedly filmed slapping and punching the young boy while teaching him to write numerals.

Akeem also maintained that the offence violated Sections 135 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Based on her plea, Magistrate Kushanu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with two sureties of like amount.

She then adjourned the case to February 18 for mention and remanded the defendant in the custody of the Kirikiri Correctional Centre until the perfection of her bail terms.

LEADERSHIP reports that a viral video showing Nwadigo repeatedly slapping Abayomi while trying to teach him how to write number six has sparked public outrage, resulting in widespread calls for justice.

As a consequence of the incident, the school’s management suspended Nwadigo, and the victim, Abayomi was said to have been hospitalised.
