Police Arrest 2 Suspected Cult Kingpins In Akwa Ibom

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have busted a syndicate of cultists accused of specialising in organised crimes and arrested two members of the gang.

Police accused the arrested syndicate of kidnapping, armed robbery and recovered offensive weapons from them.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Timfon John, told Journalists in Uyo, on Monday, that the operation followed diligent implementation of intelligence volunteered by the public.

“Following a tip-off received around 0100 hours, operatives of the Command arrested two individuals on Iyah Street, Uyo, the State capital. The suspects were identified as Donald Iwat and Daniel Bruno,” DSP John said.

She listed incriminating items recovered from the suspects to include one jack knife, one walkie-talkie, gunpowder, one bullet-proof charm, two face caps bearing the insignia of Black Axe cult group, two machetes and Police lanyard.

“The suspects are currently undergoing investigation to determine the full scope of their activities and potential links to other crimes,” the police spokesperson stated.

The Command assured of its commitment to flushing out cultism and other forms of violent crimes in the state, urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
