The mob had beaten up the suspects, and set their operational minibus ablaze at the P-and-T Bus Stop, Okpara Avenue, after an alarm was raised over their victim’s abduction.

The operatives later arrested the suspects and rescued their abducted female victim, thereby saving them from jungle justice.

A statement from the the state’s police Spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the incident, saying the suspects have both confessed to the crime.

“A preliminary investigation has shown that the suspects confessed to the crime. They stated how they and others at large have been perpetrating the criminal acts of “one-chance” robbery, abduction, and fraudulently obtaining money and other belongings from unsuspecting victims within Enugu metropolis.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court and prosecuted once investigations are concluded,” Ndukwe said.

Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has commended the operatives for their quick intervention in preventing the killing of the suspects.

The CP however urged citizens to always adhere to the laws by arresting and handing criminal suspects over to the police for necessary investigation and prosecution, instead of resorting to self-help in the form of the criminal act of jungle justice.
