Police Arrest 3 For Issuing Death Threats

Three suspected hoodlums who specialise in issuing death threats to members of the public to extort huge sums of money from them have been arrested by the operatives of the Anambra State Police Command.

 While two of the suspects were apprehended at Umunze, headquarters of Orumba -South local government area of the state, the third suspect was arrested at Ozubulu, headquarters of Ekwusigo local government area of the state. 

According to the spokesperson of the police in the state, deputy superintendent of police, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, the three suspects during interrogation identified themselves as members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the security wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

 The police image-maker stated that the two suspects arrested at Umunze issued a threat to a man via an SMS demanding huge sums of money from him, threatening the man that if he failed to pay, they would kidnap him and his daughter, and, thereafter kill both of them.

 He also said that the other suspect arrested at Ozubulu had similarly sent an SMS to a businessman demanding also a huge amount of money from him, and, that if he failed to pay, he would be kidnapped and killed.

Tochukwu, however, stated that following a tip off, a team of operatives of the police command was deployed after the hoodlums in the affected areas. 

He said that the police operatives deployed discreet investigation, technology and human assets and successfully tracked down the suspects in their hideouts, apprehended them, and also recovered the sim-cards they used in making contacts with their victims.

 He said that the commissioner of police in the state, CP Aderemi Adeoye, had praised the professionalism of the divisional police officers, DPOs in charge of Umunze and Ozubulu police stations and the team of the operatives that arrested the suspects, and, assured that the suspects would be arraigned in the court as soon as investigations were concluded to face the consequences of their actions.
