Police Arrest 3 Suspected Kidnappers In Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt and arrested three suspects in connection with the incident in Calabar, the state capital.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River Command, Irene Ugbo disclosed this via a telephone call with LEADERSHIP, on Wednesday.

Ugbo gave the names of the suspects as Henry Efa Otu, 24 years; Lawrence Ita Inyang, 46; and Umoh Ekpo, 46, all residents of Efut Effioene Street in Calabar.

The PPRO said the police surveillance team apprehended the suspected kidnappers while attempting to abduct a 38-year-old Nkereuwem Peter, a resident of 35 Eneobong Avenue in Calabar South local government area of the state.

The police spokesperson said the kidnappers opened fire upon sighting the police, but they were overpowered by the team.

She added that exhibits recovered from the suspects include two locally made pistols and one live cartridge.

Ugbo further disclosed that police were intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplices to bring them to justice.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Rashid Afegbua has reminded the criminal elements, that his mandate in the state was to reduce crime to the barest minimum.

He appealed to residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by providing timely and useful information that will assist them in taking swift actions against criminals.
