Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have busted a criminal syndicate and arrested a notorious cult leader specialising in kidnapping, armed robbery, vandalism of public assets and other violent crimes.
Following credible intelligence, the anti-crime squad, the police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, told journalists, stormed the cultists’ den in Abak local government area, where the cult kingpin was seized while others fled.
During the raid, John said fetish objects meant for ritual purposes including human skull, were recovered with one transformer, step down insulator, one circuit breaker and electric meter fuses used to vandalise homes and public assets.
“Suspected cultist and vandal suspect who specialises in the vandalism of feeder transformers and public electric cables within Abak local government area and its environs has been apprehended.
“At about 6:55pm, police operatives acting on actionable intelligence, proceeded to No. 80 School Road by Oku Abak in Abak LGA and apprehended one Pius Pius, a 40-year-old male.
“During interrogation, Mr. Pius, confessed to being a member of the Iceland Confraternity, a group reportedly involved in the destruction of critical public infrastructure.
“A search of his room led to the recovery of the following items; a human skull, one transformer stepdown insulator, one circuit-breaker and electric meter fuses
“Investigation into the matter is ongoing and further developments will be communicated as they unfold,” she said.
