An Anambra-based couple has been arrested by a team of anti-crime squad of the Anambra State police command in connection with abduction attempts.
The suspects, according to the spokesman of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement, are Mr. Okoye Kingsley and his wife, Mrs Chidinma Okoye.
The spokesman said they were arrested at their residence in Ozubulu community in Ekwusigo local government area of the state following text messages and voice notes traced to them which they had sent to some members of the public wherein they demanded ransom, otherwise they would abduct and kill them.
Ikenga also said the command was trailing a security man attached to the command who according to reports specialised in sending text messages and voice notes to people demanding ransom.
He stated that the command received a report concerning the security operative following a report lodged at one of the command’s police stations by a victim who escaped an abduction plot by the security personnel.
