Police Arrest Escapee Inmate From Owerri Prison In Rivers

Rivers State police command has said it arrested one Peter Ogudo suspected to have escaped from the jailbreak that occurred in Owerri Correctional Centre, Imo State in April 2021.

The command stated that Ogudo, aged 32, who hails from Awara community in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State, was arrested at his hideout in Rumuolumeni community, Obio/Akpor local government area of the state.

The commissioner of police, Nwonyi Emeka, who spoke to newsmen at the Police Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt, said the suspect has been on the police wanted list for the murder of two persons in his community.

Nwonyi stated that the command also arrested suspected two cultists and two notorious car snatchers as well as recovered large number of arms and ammunition within the last five days.

He said: “Upon my assumption of office as the 44th commissioner of police in the state, I have vowed to rid out all forms of criminal activities and to make the state habitable for those doing genuine business.

 

“On June 1, 2023 about 0540 hours, based on information, operatives of the command raided house of Prince Aki of Ahoada East LGA, the hideout of a notorious Greenland cult group and arrested one Progress Moses, aka ‘Bodylink’, aged 55years.

 

“Exhibits recovered includes one locally made wooden AK47 riffle, one toy pistol, two motorcycles. Two machete, one knife and sophisticated charms.

 

“On 2 June, 2023, operatives of the command arrested one suspect a native of Awara, Ohaji LGA of Imo State in his hideout at Nkpor, Rumulomeni, Port Harcourt for the  murder of two persons in his community.

 

“He has been on the watch list of the Police since he escaped from lawful custody during the jail break that occured in correctional Centre in Owerri in April 2001

 

“On June 2, operatives of Eneka Division, while conducting ‘stop and search’ intercepted two male suspects named Ndubuisi Brown aged 47 years and Amaechi Kenneth aged 35 years while in possession of fire arms in their boot and could not give satisfactory account after they were arrested along Army Range Road, Eneka.

 

“Other exhibit include Lexus 300 coloured Jeep with registration number: Lagos APP 664B2.

 

“On June 4, 2023, at about 17:30 hours, operatives of the command, acting on a tip off, raided the den of Greenland cult group terrorizing Udebu community in Ahoada East local government area and its environs during the operation one cultist was fatally wounded.

 

“Exhibits recovered include one locally fabricated G3 riffle, eight rounds of live ammunition, one locally made pistol that uses AK 47 ammunition, one cutlass and three phones.

 

“I call on parents to monitor their children and wards so they do not succumb to societal pressure to commit crime. I commend the efforts of men and officers of the command that joined to ensure that crime and criminality is reduced to the barest minimum.”
