Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 53-year-old man, Gambo Hassan, alias ‘Anahaka’ over alleged involvement in multiple cases of kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and unlawful possession of offensive weapons in Bauchi metropolis.

Hassan, a resident of Igbo Quarters, Bauchi, was arrested on 11th September, 2026, by operatives of the ‘B’ Division, Government Reserved Area (GRA), Bauchi, during a routine patrol on Adamu Jumba Road.
The command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Habib, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect allegedly disguised himself as a commercial motorcycle, or “Okada rider”, particularly during the evening, to target unsuspecting passengers, especially women.

According to him, the suspect was arrested while riding a Bajaj motorcycle with registration number BAU 150G and wearing a black face mask and face cap. A sharp knife was also recovered from him at the point of arrest.

Habib said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation and subsequently led detectives to identify 15 women in the Bauchi metropolis who were initially linked to his alleged criminal activities.
He added that the number of identified victims had subsequently risen to 35 women.
Following the development, police operatives executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, where several items suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered.

The recovered exhibits included 15 assorted mobile phones, comprising a Samsung Galaxy Fold, Redmi, two iPhones, two iTel phones, four Infinix phones and two Tecno phones, as well as three power banks.

Other items recovered were six ladies’ wristwatches, six assorted native caps, five bundles of women’s wrappers, three women’s hijabs and N425,435 cash.

The police also recovered Kenyan and Turkish currency notes, alongside other items believed to be connected to the alleged offences.

The suspect and all the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.

He assured the public that the command would remain resolute in its efforts to clamp down on criminal elements in the state.

The commissioner also urged members of the public, particularly anyone who may have been a victim of the suspect, to come forward with useful information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
