Police Arrest Man For Alleged Sexual Assault Of 8-yr-old Girl In Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Mika’ilu Abdulkarim, a resident of Tsirma Village of Jigawa State for allegedly defiling an 8-year-old girl, Hafsat Babagana of Garin Alkali, Bursari local government area.

Spokesman of the Yobe State Command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement in Damaturu, said the arrest followed a report by the victim’s father.

According to Abdulkarim, the suspect reportedly lured the minor, who is said to be of unsound mind with a promise of ₦500, and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her at Garin Alkali Market.

Police said operatives from Garin Alkali Division swiftly arrested the suspect, stressing that both suspect and the victim were taken to the Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a for medical examination.

Abdulkarim added that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Damaturu for further investigation after which the suspect will be charged to court.

The State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act and urged parents to remain vigilant, calling on communities to support efforts against sexual and gender-based violence.
