The police command’s spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, in a statement released in Damaturu, said the arrest followed a complaint by a relative of the victim.

Abdulkarim said the suspect reportedly lured the minor, alleged to be of unsound mind, with a promise of ₦500 and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her at Garin Alkali Market.

Police operatives from Garin Alkali Division arrested the suspect following a report by the victim’s father. Both the suspect and victim were taken to the Specialist Hospital, Gashu’a, for medical examination.

Abdulkarim said the case had been transferred to the State CID, Damaturu, for further investigation, adding that the suspect would be charged in court thereafter.

He said the police commissioner, Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act and urged parents to remain vigilant.
