The police have arrested Umar Shaibu over an alleged viral human rights violation video where he physically abused a woman in Jimeta, the Adamawa State capital.
Shaibu was arrested following the widespread circulation of a disturbing video according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Suleiman Nguroje.
On 13th March, 2025, a woman, Salamatu Yakubu, 22 years old, of Angwan Tana, was physically assaulted and severely beaten by her uncle Umar Shaibu.
During the assault, an individual recorded the incident and shared the video on social media.
Concerned citizens, good Samaritans, NGOs, and civil society organizations made several calls to the police.
The timely response from the police led to the arrest of the suspect.
The suspect was apprehended with the assistance of concerned citizens through community policing strategies.
The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.
The suspect is currently in custody at the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for diligent investigation and prosecution.
