The Imo State Police spokesman, Henry Okoye, in a statement on Tuesday said the suspect confessed on interrogation, that he bought the said pistol from a gun-runner at Ugirike in Ikeduru LGA and intends to use it for his protection.

“An investigation is ongoing, efforts are underway to apprehend the dealers and manufacturers of the locally-made guns. The suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of a comprehensive investigation,” Okoye said.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aboki Danjuma called on the residents of Imo State to support the police with credible information to curb proliferation of illicit firearms and ammunition which poses a serious threat to the overall peace and security of the state
