Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested one of the suspected car snatchers in the Choba axis of Port Harcourt, seen in a video that went viral on social media.
The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, issued a statement in Port Harcourt yesterday identifying the suspect as Iruo Young, a male of 42 years.
Iringe-Koko, who stated that Young was arrested at his hideout in the Ikoku axis of the Rivers State capital, said the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information on his involvement in the crime.
The statement reads: “The Rivers State Police Command has made another remarkable achievement in a swift operation and investigation into the viral video circulating on social media, depicting an armed robbery incident at Choba area of Port Harcourt on October 15, 2025.
“The incident which occurred at about 1500hrs involved the snatching of a Toyota Avalon car at gunpoint.
“Through intelligence-led policing and technical support, operatives of the command have apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Iruo Young M. ‘m’ aged 42 years, at his hideout in Ikoku, Port Harcourt.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime, providing detailed information about his involvement in the robbery incident.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and an in-depth investigation has been launched to apprehend the other fleeing suspects, recover the stolen vehicle and retrieve the firearms used in the commission of the crime.”
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has commended the operatives involved in the operation for their diligence and swift response, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
Adepoju thanked the public for their support in sharing credible information, which facilitated the arrest.
He warned that the state would not provide a hiding place for criminals and stressed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of life and property in the state.
