Police Arrest Three Following Discovery Of 10th Female Body In Gauteng

South African police have arrested three suspects in connection with a series of female homicides in Gauteng Province following the discovery of a tenth woman’s body in a Soweto dam.

Passersby discovered the body of the unidentified victim, estimated to be in her mid-20s, at the Moroka Dam on Sunday afternoon, September 20, 2026.

The discovery follows the deployment of a high-level police task force to investigate the deaths of nine other women found in the Ekurhuleni region since July. Forensic teams are working to establish the cause of death and determine if the Soweto case is linked to the previous incidents.

On Monday, September 21, law enforcement authorities announced the arrest of two women and one man linked to one of the Ekurhuleni homicides. Detectives are continuing investigations to determine if the suspects are connected to the remaining cases.

Following the surge in violence, Minister in the Presidency Sindisiwe Chikunga confirmed that President Cyril Ramaphosa has directed national security agencies to prioritize the ongoing investigations across the affected areas.
