The Gombe State Police Command said its operatives in Zambuk Division in Yamaltu Deba local government area have arrested 54-year-old Mohammed Tukur of Sabon Gari Village for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl identified as Zulei Malam Dahiru.
Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said in a statement that the victim was rushed to the General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, while the suspect remained in custody as investigations continue.
“Police visited the scene, rushed the victim to General Hospital Zambuk for medical examination, and arrested the suspect. Investigation is ongoing,” Abdullahi said.
The Command strongly condemned all forms of sexual violence and urged residents to promptly report criminal cases for swift action.
DSP Abdullahi added that in a separate case on the same day, operatives arrested a 18-year-old Hassan Aminu Sadiq, a wanted serial armed robbery suspect of Yelwa Quarters, Kwadon in Gombe metropolis.
He explained that operatives from the Kwadon Division arrested the suspect on August 9, following the receipt of credible intelligence.
The police spokesman explained that the suspect was found in possession of a roll of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and, during interrogation, confessed to involvement in two armed robbery cases already pending before the High Court in Gombe.
He added that the suspect has been transferred to the Anti-Violence Squad for further investigation and prosecution.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to involvement in two separate armed robbery cases currently pending before the High Court, Gombe.
“The suspect and recovered exhibit have been transferred to the Anti-Violence Squad for further investigation and prosecution,” Abdullahi said.
